Leigh Slayden Founder
Before making a name for herself in marketing management for non-profit associations, Leigh earned praise for her roles in copywriting, art direction, strategy, and production. Over the last 13 years she gained a reputation for dramatically increasing membership and revenue — sometimes millions of dollars over corporate goals; reducing marketing costs; and reversing downward trends in membership, sales, and revenue.
Leigh launched Bigger Better Marketing International in 2006, bringing the benefits of her skilled direction to even more organizations. During the summer of 2009, she returned to the non-profit world as an association executive, handing over the day-to-day management of the company to William Stone.
YOUR TEAM
William Stone President / Owner
Twice selected as Johns Hopkins' Phi Epsilon Buddy Endowment Scholar, Bill graduated from the university's writing program (ranked by The Atlantic Monthly among the top ten of all writing degree programs throughout the world) in 1999. He is a former marketing strategy executive, journalist, and magazine editor. Bill's marketing and communications prowess is perhaps best exemplified by his achievements for one organization in just one year when he used market intelligence reporting and innovative communication tactics to lift direct response by 1,200%, increase revenue by 10% above goal, and simultaneously reduce marketing costs by more than $150,000. During the past twelve years Bill has helped more than 40 corporations, associations, and global agencies, including several Fortune 100 companies, achieve their marketing communication goals.
Stephen Sye Marketing Strategist / Analyst
As the Marketing Manager, Professional Development Unit for the International Reading Association, Stephen has been tasked with creating and running a marketing department using the best practices garnered from the for-profit world. Prior to this position he served as the Marketing Supervisor for the world's largest non-profit medical specialty society, the American College of Physicians (ACP). In that role, Stephen managed a $1.2 million promotional budget for membership acquisition and retention, continuing medical education meetings and events, and derivative products and recordings. Under Stephen's leadership, his team grew membership by 11% (acquired 13,000 new members), augmented annual live meeting attendance by 6% ($216,000), boosted derivative product sales by 28% ($159,000 for 2009 alone), and increased repeat visitors to the ACP website from 26% to 40%.
In addition to his core responsibilities, Stephen sat on several ACP business development teams, including the Member Engagement in Innovation Ideas Committee and the International Membership Expansion Team. Due to his innovative proposal to marry virtual learning environments with ACP's educational programs, products and services, he was named chair of the Medical Education Gaming Team.
